Submit Material to TAAP
Submit your materials to The African American Pulpit! Unsolicited materials are gladly received. All materials should be submitted to our editors via e-mail attachment at mcgoeyeditor@comcast.net

Our upcoming Issue themes and material deadline dates are as follows:

Winter 2008–2009—This issue will be The Pastor's Issue. We are seeking sermons and articles that aid Pastors. We especially want articles that address the Pastor's role as Administrator, Community Activist, and Counselor. We are also seeking articles that address the pastor and his or her spouse and How-To articles for Pastors who are: Young, Pastoring in Rural Areas, Dual Career Pastors, and Pastoring seeking additional education/training. All sermons should be specifically prepared to speak to pastors. Deadline for submission of material to mcgoeyeditor@comcast.net is May 2, 2008.

Spring 2009—This issue will feature Our Senior Statespersons in Ministry. If you know of persons in ministry who are 65 or older who have served in ministry with distinction (active or retired), we want to include them in this issue. In some instances we will feature sermons and articles by these elders. Others will have their bios and photos listed as part of our “Seniors of Distinction” list that is being compiled for this issue. The deadline for submission of material to mcgoeyeditor@comcast.net is AUGUST 1, 2008.

Summer 2009—This issue is a general (non-theme) issue. It is open to anyone who would like to submit an article or sermon for consideration for publication. Please go to the Submit page on this website for information. This issue will also include use of the Arts and Technology in Worship. If you are an artist and/or would like to share with readers how they can use technology to aid in worship, we want to hear from you. The deadline for submission of material to mcgoeyeditor@comcast.net is NOVEMBER 1, 2008.

Fall 2009—This Transitions in the 21st Century issue will address transition issues such as:

  • how to help congregations transition from the 20th century to the 21st;
  • how to help pastors and churches craft a positive Succession Strategy;
  • helping pastors transition toward retirement and new vistas after leaving the pastorate;
  • how to help churches transition from a long-term pastor to a new pastor; and
  • how to help churches transition after a church split or fight during which a pastor leaves. If you can provide articles or sermons to address these issues, we want to hear from you.

    The deadline for submission of material to mcgoeyeditor@comcast.net is FEBRUARY 1, 2009.

    Winter 2009–2010—This Enhancing the Health of Preachers and Churches issue will contain articles and sermons that enable the spiritual, physical, and mental health of persons in ministry and suggest ways that they can model and teach these behaviors to congregations. We especially are looking for articles that address pastoral burn-out, pastoring during a mid-life crisis, maintaining a balance between family and ministry, and articles on physical health issues such as obesity, diabetes, and cancer. If you have preached a sermon on health and/or would like to submit an article, please do so. Articles from medical professionals are especially encouraged. We do accept articles from laypersons. The deadline for submission of mater ial to mcgoeyeditor@comcast.net is MAY 1, 2009.

  • Presenting The African American Lectionary! It's Historic! It's Revolutionary! It's HERE!
    Visit www.TheAfricanAmericanLectionary.org and change your worship and preaching forever!

    Desiring to create new national conversations around the use of Scripture in worship and preaching, The Rev. Martha Simmons, president and publisher of The African American Pulpit, has commissioned Drs. Katie Cannon, Brad Braxton, and Rodney Sadler Jr. to facilitate the first year of an ecumenical, web-based, African American lectionary. Dr. Leo Davis and Mr. Nolan Williams Jr. will serve as Lectionary Liturgists and Dr. Bernice Johnson Reagon and Reverend William Wiggins Jr. will serve as Cultural Historians for the lectionary. Drs. Cain Hope Felder, W. James Abbington, and Mitzi Smith were members of the lectionary creation team.

    Throughout the project clergy, worship leaders, historians, cultural anthropologists, poets, musicians, and others will also contribute lectionary readings, poetry, music, and worship planning ideas. Persons can send email to info@theafricanamericanlectionary.org if they would like to contribute to the lectionary and help us make history!

    And Jesus said, "Where is he?" And the Master said in one sentence all of the Christian ethics you need to know, all you need about the theories of human goodness; he said, "Bring him to me."
